Time is the enemy. A rug that stays wet heads toward dry rot, dye bleed, and—on tufted pieces with a glued cloth back—delamination. Many also turn brown. That browning may or may not come out.
Bacteria first
Ask how the rug got wet. A toilet supply line can look clear and still carry a bacterial load. Category of water matters for disinfection, not just for “getting it dry.”
The sequence we use
- If the rug is sitting in water, we extract standing moisture on site.
- We wrap it for the ride to the plant (temporary plastic is for transport, not storage).
- Disinfection and controlled drying start immediately at the facility—not on your floor under a box fan.
Do not roll a soaking rug and leave it in the garage “until next week.” Do not run a rental steamer over it. Call the same day. Pickup is available if you cannot lift a room-size piece.
When you are ready for a real reset, start with rug cleaning.
