A Home Care Checklist Between Professional Rug Washes

A “complete home wash” is how wool gets felted and dyes migrate. This checklist is for the years between plant visits.

Weekly

  • Vacuum both directions on the field; stop before the fringe.
  • Canister, brush off.

Monthly

  • Peek under furniture legs for crushing and moisture.
  • Check houseplant saucers at the edge of the rug.

Seasonally

  • Rotate 180° so sun and traffic wear evenly.
  • Confirm the pad is still doing its job and not crumbling.

The day of a spill

  • Blot, don’t rub. White cloths. Cool water if you rinse.
  • Test color first. Stop if dye moves.

Never

  • Steam mops, Rug Doctors, or “rug shampoo” powder left in the pile.
  • Storing the rug dirty.

When the traffic lane stays dull after vacuuming, or pets have had accidents, that’s the plant’s job—not a longer checklist.

When you are ready for a real reset, start with rug cleaning.
