A supply-line burst and a monsoon that came under the door are not the same water. Category matters: clear supply, gray appliance, or sewage. So does time. Carpet plus wet pad is a mold clock.
Before anyone arrives
- Electricity and slip hazards first.
- Scoop and mop standing water if it’s safe.
- Blocks under furniture legs so you’re not branding wet dye into wood.
- Don’t run the HVAC until you know you’re not spreading contamination.
We can extract and disinfect some losses. Many pads are a tear-out. Some carpets delaminate or stay musty no matter how heroic the dry. Area rugs in the same room should go to the rug plant—the rules in our water-damage rug notes apply. Call the same day; “we’ll see how it smells on Monday” is how you replace the floor.
