After the Monsoon: Mildew in Tile and Grout

When the monsoon stacks humidity on a closed-up bath, mildew shows up in grout lines and caulk. We’ve been cleaning those showers since 1973. Chemistry has improved. Physics has not: mildew needs moisture and still air.

Before we arrive

  • Run the fan. Open a window if you have one that actually moves air.
  • A dehumidifier in a tight bath earns its keep in August.
  • Fix the drip. Cleaning a leak is a subscription.
  • Wipe standing water off ledges after showers.

What we do

We treat and extract. Bleach on colored grout can give you zebra lines. Bleach on natural stone is a hard no. If caulk is black through the bead, it needs to be cut out, not scrubbed. We’ll tell you which lines are grout (cleanable) and which are failed caulk (replace).

When you are ready for a real reset, start with tile and grout cleaning.
